Navy MWR Kicks Off the 9th Annual Great Navy Campout

June 3, 2024 | Story by Megan Trexler | Commander, Navy Installations Command

The Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation and Liberty programs are thrilled to announce the 9th annual Great Navy Campout, presented by T-Mobile. This year, 61 events will take place worldwide from June to October 2024, celebrating the joy of outdoor recreation and camping as a way to connect with nature and wildlife.

"Great Navy Campout started as an idea to connect the Navy community with MWR's community recreation and outdoor recreation programs," said Brooke Haley, Fleet and Family Readiness Community Recreation and Liberty Program Manager. "We wanted to tie together people's love for the outdoors with the wide array of recreational opportunities we offer, creating a space where everyone can enjoy nature and build lasting memories."

The Great Navy Campout is more than just a series of camping events; it's a celebration of the great outdoors and a testament to the Navy community's love for adventure and nature. Navy FFR (Fleet and Family Readiness) encourages all participants, whether seasoned campers or first-timers, to join in the festivities and make unforgettable memories under the stars.

Adding to the excitement this year is the return of the Pledge to Camp initiative, encouraging participants to explore the outdoors, whether in their backyard or a national park. By taking the Pledge to Camp, the military community can share their adventures on the Navy MWR website each month from Memorial Day weekend through October. Participants who share their experiences can win prizes, including monthly $500 gift cards and a $2,500 grand prize, with separate winners for E1-E5 and E6 and above.

As Great Navy Campout extends through the summer, the Navy MWR Community Recreation and Liberty programs invite Sailors, family members and all eligible patrons to participate in one of the upcoming events at their local installation. Navy MWR Community Recreation offers a variety of recreational programs and services, including outdoor recreation, special events, leisure classes, trips, discounted attraction tickets, parks and picnic spaces and more. Navy MWR Liberty offers single and unaccompanied junior Sailors (E1-E6) with recreational and leisure programs, trips and outings, outdoor adventure activities, entertainment and cultural experiences, volunteer and outreach experiences and social activities.

No Navy endorsement implied.
